So what if insurrectionists are indicted? Jury nullification

After indictments are handed down, those who sought, on January 6, to overthrow the elected government of the United States, have backup plans. One that should be mentioned is the jury system. For years people on the far right have sown seeds. 1/4

Jury nullification: a concept that, regardless of Court’s instructions or evidence presented, jury deliberations almost are sacrosanct. As a general rule a jury’s verdict can be impeached only for outside influences (people communication directly or indirectly) or intoxication. 2/4

Voir dire is the process of screening jurors. If a juror smiles and answers questions correctly (see “The Runaway Jury”) then the juror can make it on the jury. Only one juror has to hold out for a “not guilty.” Edith Bunker did that, for noble reasons, on “All in the Family.” 3/4

We should not be surprised if those who sought to overthrow our government smirk as they walk out of court, free to carry out the wishes of their paymaster. Putin will view it al and, laughing, spread his wings. He is close to killing our republic. 4/4

Blaming 1/6 on Putin is so very wrong.  Putin was involved in helping Trump win the 2016 election. That is really not in serious dispute.  But the shenanigans related to the attempted theft of the 2020 election and the attempted insurrection on 1/6, that was not Putin....that was an all American effort.   The disinformation which is fueling the anti-democratic forces is coming from Americans and Americans is solely responsible for that.
