Last week I was struck by how empty downtown Indy is. Courts and the people, in various jobs & in whatever offices, that are part of that system, moved a couple of miles away to the “new” Justice Center on Southeastern Avenue. Businesses cannot survive without customers. 1/5
City-County Council throws $$$ at developers to go along w/land also gifted. The “mixed use” buildings (usually apartments over a floor of whatever businesses can be lured downtown) go up. I point out absence of risk (important to “free markets) for developers. The response is swift 2/5
& nasty. “It makes no sense for the developers to want to fail” is a “truth” self-evident. It is not true. Developers build, people are attracted, the place deteriorates & developers get land & $ for the next “in” place. Suggest urban planning & you’re a socialist. Yeah tossing $$$ & land 3/5
as freebies to developers is “capitalism.” I told a person last week: the red line should have been built on Keystone for people unable to afford cars for service jobs downtown. He said? Maybe those ppl need to get better jobs. 4/5
I said, “How dare you! We need those people downtown for jobs that are needed.” Face it: one party runs the City-County, and it is the green party. That has nothing to do w/the environment, but the color of cash (now changing to blue). 5/5.
