Elections are determined by the voters. Legitimacy of elections can be called into question when outcomes are determined by other factors. Marion County began early voting on April 9 for the May 7 primary election. [FN1] No system built by humans is perfect, but 1/6
ExpressVote, Marion County’s, addresses vulnerabilitie/reduces risks. Here are measures a voter (“V” for brevity) encounters:
1) Voter can vote, s/he/they must be eligible & registered. 2/6
2) At first stop two (2) election workers ask for gov’t-issued photo ID. [FN2]. The ID is scanned. V is asked to validate dob & address as current. {FN3] If any info is in question, the Election Board is consulted. 3/6
3) Election workers initial ballot & V votes on ExpressVote machine.
4) V proceeds to final table & two (2) election workers confirm info.
5) V signs/ dates the envelope.
6) Two election workers sign/date the envelope.
7) V places her/his/their into the envelope.
8) An election worker seal envelope.
9) V deposits envelope box/voting is complete. 4/6
10) One big “check”: great % of voters are recognized by one or more election workers. Also...
11) A paper record is kept as back-up in case of any disputes.
No system’s perfect, but, ExpressVote has covered a lot of bases w/what I’ve described. 5/6
