Nobody had seen them in the establishment before. They wanted to impress the rest of us. Two wore holsters in plain view. They stood for a few minutes beside motorcycles that had the looks of being recently wheeled off a showroom floor. One tossed a cigar wrapper on the sidewalk. 1/5
One guy stood next to his bike, hand on his semi-automatic pistol. He pulled it out, not quite all the way, then eased it back. We were less safe from these morons strutting in with their weapons on their hips. They weren’t there to deter violence. They wanted to strut their 4-inch barrels. 2/5
There’s a continuum that ends with mass shooters. Along the way are people like these fellows. With beer bellies that big, they can’t see the “gear” with which they were born, even with 4-inch barrels as supplements. These bullies are a tyranny in our daily lives. 3/5
Alcohol & handguns mix as well as alcohol & cars. For most of our history, and even in the not-so-wild West, there were restrictions on firearms. Among places where we need to ban guns, bars seem obvious, but so do schools and parades and synagogues and... 4/5
