Const’l convention under Art V would have no limits, part 1 c.2026 mark small.

Holding an Article V [FN1] convention would be folly, as a better understanding of facts from our country’s founding disclose. As we embark on a review of that history, in this series of blogs, Indiana provides an example of the dangers posed by an Article V convention. 1/8

By statute, IN’s Lt Governor would chair that convention. [FN2] IN’s Lt Gov is Micah Beckwith, a self-described Christian nationalist. [FN3] “The empirically supported definition of ‘Christian nationalism’ used by experts [in] various fields of study is: 2/8

‘an ideology that desires a close fusion of a particular expression of Christianity with American civic life. It demands our government, at all levels, vigorously defend this ideology as central to our national identity, public policy, and social belonging.’” [FN4] 3/8

To understand various ways in which an Article V convention would seriously impair the rights of anyone not part of the wealthiest few, we need to look at how the Constitution came about. The facts are part of our history infrequently taught. 4/8

There are problems when a would-be dictator takes actions that s/he lies & says are w/in powers of the executive branch as spelled out by the Constitution. An Article V convention would allow a would-be dictator to write a new Constitution. Also: 5/8

Watch “The Rinse,” Brad Sowinski’s podcast on FB. It live-streams at 7:30 EST/6:30 CST on Sundays. Drew Weingarten and I also are on the show. Topics 5/24: IN’s Sec’y of State race, “closed” primaries, and Brad’s “Profiles in Concepts.” 6/8
