Capitol & John Adams moved into an unfinished White House. [FN2] [FN3] In 1846, work on the Washington Monument began. In 1861, when Southern States seceded, Pres Lincoln [FN4] in the White House and members of Congress in the Capitol did their jobs. Slavery ended. 2/8
The Washington Monument was completed in 1888. In the years since its completion, even the British, who set fire to the White House during the War of 1812, did less damage than is being done now. trump is insecure of others’ perception of him as rich and as a “manly man.” 3/8
He lied when he said building the “ball room” would do no damage to the White House. What he has done so far can best be described as 1890s bordello. Gold paint is meant to make the false impression that, at least before taking office, he was rich. 4/8
I can only hope that trump does not become insecure over that tall, erect Washington Monument not far from the hideously-decorated Oval Office. He might give orders to chop it down so that it is no higher than his “member,” but it’s tough to build an obelisk three inches high. 5/8
