In his “Today’s Edition Newsletter, attorney Robert Hubbell observed: “As Democrats honor the Constitution by facilitating the peaceful transition of power, the first president to interfere with that process will be inaugurated in little less than a month.” [FN1] I agree in part. 1/9
Inauguration of “the first president to interfere with” the “peaceful transition of power” is set for Jan 20, less than a month from today. trump’s speech on Jan 6 to “fight like hell” or “you're not going to have a country anymore” [FN2] was clear. trump incited, set on foot, 2/9
assisted, or engaged in “any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the U.S. or the laws thereof, or gave aid or comfort to others who did.” [FN3] trump’s actions constitute insurrection. [FN4] trump is disqualified from holding office, by statute & the Constitution. [FN5] 3/9
trump himself declared these circumstances a “national emergency” by Executive Order 13848 on 09/12/18. [FN6]
Mr Hubbell observes “Democrats honor the Constitution by facilitating the peaceful transition of power.” Honoring The Constitution is a bit more complicated. 4/9
Pres Biden took an oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.” [FN7] trump has promised to impose a dictatorship & that violates Art. IV, sec 4 & its guarantee of “a Republican form of government.” [FN8] 5/9
No one can be said to “honor the Constitution” by handing power to trump who is disqualified from holding any office. This is so especially since the goal of the ongoing insurrection, begun before 2016's elections, was to place trump in that specific office & add to Putin’s 6/9
collection of would-be dictators around the world. Pres Biden has time to honor The Constitution by invoking emergency powers. trump declared the emergency in 2018 to save his own ass. Pres Biden will save our Republic. And: follow Cassie Jackson on Facebook. 7/9
