“To advance knowledge” is not one of the reasons Ham County preacher/political wannabe Micah Beckwith sought a seat (& got it via the back door) on Ham Easr Library Board. In February he hyped a course he was teaching about The Constitution, and added “stay away from higher 1/6
education and [its] secular progressive bias” & claims training/ed’n on constitutional law from “Hillsdale College as well as a plethora of private studies and research.” Beckwith wants a lot of books (that he probably never read) to be out of kids’ reach because they’re pornography.2/6
He’s ignorant about so many things, but especially The Constitution. I’ll continue w/what I said yesterday about why Beckwith’s “God” neither wrote nor inspired The Constitution. People opposed The Constitution, in part, because it generally disregarded religion. No one 3/6
countered “God wrote it” or “God inspired it!” North Carolina held two ratification conventions: in Hillsborough (1788) and in Fayetteville (1789). In the first, the vote was 184 to 83. If “God” wrote the document, there was no indication of any N. Carolina being smote as a result. 4/6
During debate on July 30, 1788, delegates argued whether a Bill of Rights was necessary specifically as to religious freedom. The evils of those in power backed by religion “considered all wisdom centered in themselves; that they alone had a right to dictate to the rest of mankind; 5/6
and that all opposition to their tenets was profane and impious.” Debate in North Carolina Ratifying Convention, Elliott 4: 191-200. I recommend you look it up and read it. If Beckwith & others like him gain more power, to question him will be profane. 6/6
