Indiana political realities in this quadrennial vary. A person told me I only “preach to the choir.” I want to address 1) that critique + 2) why I re-visit points previously made.
Indiana has the same two “major” political parties as other States. [FN1] Visualize: 1/9
3 rectangles: left is blue (Dems), right is red (GOP) & middle is gray. [FN2] Indiana is red w/a few (very few) pockets of blue. A few voters (very few) in the blue & in the red might change. Voters in the “gray” might lean one way, but haven’t made a final decision. 2/9
A weird dynamic in Indiana: Micah Beckwith [FN3] wants to be the GOP’s nominee for IN Lt Gov. For today’s blog, the relevant facts are simple:
1) Beckwith claims to be a “Constitutionalist.”
2) Indiana is governed by the U.S. & Indiana constitutions.
3) IN’s Const’n establishes the office Beckwith seeks. [FN4] 3/9
4) Lt Gov has duties under statutes enacted consistent w/IN’s Const’n. [FN5]
5) Beckwith wants to give delegates “their voices back,” i.e., let them nominate Lt Gov & not let winner of the GOP primary for Gov pick “their favorite yes man.” [FN6] But...
6) Beckwith began to recruit ppl to run for delegates last year. 4/9
7) Beckwith, a “Constitutionalist,” began, last summer & State-wide, to recruit people to run for GOP State delegate to vote for Beckwith & said this is very important. [FN7]
So here’s the deal. Beckwith isn’t giving anyone their voices back. 5/9
Beckwith can’t win an election, but would act as a brake on the lead person on the GOP ticket. We have two examples of how that would function.
A) Look at the chaos that was Beckwith’s time on the HEPL board of trustees.
B) Look at what Christofascists have done in the U.S. House. 6/9
