Memorial Day, as we were reminded us, commemorates the women & men who died in military service for this country. As we mourn we should be aware we can prevent more deaths of military personnel & veterans. First: fund programs for PTSD, housing, job training & 1/5
any other social net vets need. Second, we should cut the military budget in half. We are on a constant war-footing against the rest of the World. That engenders hatred. Fewer wars = fewer dead. The USA approached, never achieved, greatness. We couldn’t be great during...2/5
slavery (1789-1865), while civil rights were denied to former slaves & their descendants (1865-1954), or denied to women & indigenous ppl. We approached greatness in 1954. Segregation nominally ended. Women had the vote (1919). We still killed indigenous ppl. 3/5
Then we stopped the Vietnam War. Civil Rights & Voting Rights Acts passed. The ERA was on its way, and male egos took a hit. We “lost” in Vietnam. Reagan took us downhill. 4/5
