Mass shootings that grab headlines in other countries hardly merit media attention here. We need to shift how we consider nuts going out & blowing away people. On Saturday afternoons an Indy radio station discusses matters related to guns. There are several ways to beef up the show. 1/7
1) Give us science! To claim guns deter use of guns, advocates need support, and not the bogus stuff floated by the NRA. There should be peer reviewed studies. That means the studies are reviewed by experts in the field to check things like methodology to reach results. 2/7
2) Give us coefficients! Lives saved per gun death isn’t rocket science. It’s epidemiology: “the ‘study of distribution and determinants of health-related states among specified populations and the application of that study to the control of health problems.” [FN1] 3/7
3) Celebrate the culture you create! The calendar certainly fills when psychos grab weapons to mow others. The least any gun guy would do is mark the dates down! 4/27/19 might not mean a lot to some people. And hey, the numbers are not even a basic Columbine body count. ... 4/7
at Chabad of Poway synagogue in Poway CA, on the last day of Passover, armed with an AR-15 style rifle, John Earnest killed a woman and injured 3 other ppl, including the synagogue's rabbi. The shooter received LWOP (Life Without Parole) in State & Fed prosecutions. 5/7
How many mass shootings were prevented by Earnest? I don’t expect the gun guy to answer. He is loathe to address issues on an even playing field. That’s kinda like somebody scoping out a place to perpetrate a mass shooting. At least it displays a similar lack of courage. 6/7
