expansion of soc security & unempl ins coverage, improved housing, better health protection for all, better enforcement of antitrust laws, const’l amend to provide equal rts for men & women. GOP was founded on progressive principles: abolition of slavery & economic reforms. 2/4

In time GOP sought to expand civil rts, protect air & water, fight monopolies & tax income on a graduated scale. The “Southern Strategy” retarded these principles & pandered to racism w/the only goal being to win elections. To regain relevance, GOP must return to its roots. 3/4
