Micah Beckwith [FN1] wants power. When s/he specifically said the office s/he seeks is IN Lt Gov, I blogged about Indiana’s Constitution & statutes that define the powers & duties of that office. [FN2] Here are a few points to consider. 1/11

1) IN Lt Gov can’t do what Beckwith says he wants to do. Examples: Beckwith wants to “restore parental rights” and “get teachers back to basics, not pushing a sexual agenda.” IN Lt Gov’s job description does not encompass those areas. That’s very important because... 2/11

2) Beckwith claims to be a “Constitutional Conservative.” The far right has bitched for decades, especially since Brown v Bd of Education, 347 U.S. 483 (1954), held that racial segregation in schools is unconstitutional. Their view is the Constitution cannot be used to fight racism, 3/11

but gives safe haven for racists who would reimpose the laws & separate institutions the racists love. (It makes no sense: I know.)
3) “IN Lt Gov can’t do much.” That’s not true. Statutes give the Lt Gov many roles. [FN3] 4/11

4) You might not know it from reading Beckwith campaign ads, but Beckwith has held public office. Beckwith was spirited onto the board of trustees of HEPL [FN4] w/little prior notice & pushed a policy that wasted $ & made Fishers a laughingstock. [FN5] 5/11

5) Beckwith wants power. Beckwith has said he will be a “thorn” in the side of a governor who is not sufficiently conservative. [FN6] No matter how much of an asshole one might believe Sen Mike Braun is, Braun won the primary w/237,125 votes. [FN7] 6/11

Beckwith worked the State for a year recruiting ppl to be delegates to the party’s State convention & still only won 891 to 828. Beckwith knows very little about history or our Constitution, but the math is simple. 237,125 > 891. However, you can’t split the vote. 7/11

A voter can choose the Democratic Party ticket of McCormick/Goodin, the Libertarian Party ticket of Rainwater/Hudson or the magaGOP ticket of Beckwith. Beckwith’s making all the noise, could become Gov & poses a threat to us all. #BrainsNotBraun 8/11
