Latest from Lewiston, Maine: 20 people died when one of those “lone gunmen” went nuts w/an assault style weapon. We all should be thankful for the NRA bribing public officials on a scale sufficient to ensure at least two other shooters did not cut loose in other places. 1/7
In post-Citizens United America, the NRA does not have to waste its valuable resources & stuff cash into public officials’ pockets. SCOTUS Associate Justice Clarence Thomas sets a great example of efficient corruption. A 6-figure loan for his RV disappears. Thomas took 2/7
vacations around the world (not in the RV), got his mom a home, etc, and no one has pointed to tawdry transfers of cash into Thomas’s bottomless pockets. Thomas is a man of integrity. He delivered! [FN1] America should thank the most-senior SCOTUS justice. 3/7
Syllogism: if guns prevent crime & U.S. has most guns per capita of any country, we have no crime! If you wonder how many mass shootings the Lewiston mass shooting prevented, toss a coin. Heads: 2-5, Tails: too many to track. Lewiston’s ordinance restricting discharge 4/7
of firearms is to blame. [FN2] That’s not a “gun-free” zone, but when we talk guns, we need to chuck reason to the wind. Yes, we should kiss the derrieres of the six right-wing justices who leap-frogged the Taney Court (1836-64) for Most corrupt SCOTUS in history! 5/7
Unfortunately, were Roger Taney, C.J., alive today, he probably would not shake Thomas’s hand & say thanks. Taney wrote that those of a darker skin color, such as Thomas, are “a subordinate & inferior class of beings.” [FN3] 6/7
Footnotes: FN1. New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n v Bruen, docket 20-843 (6/23/22). FN2. Ordinance 50-107. Discharging firearms. FN3. Dred Scott v Sanford, 60 U.S. 404-05 ((1856). 7/7.
