From their comments about NoKings 3.0, maga seem oblivious to “NoKings” as a title given to protests that oppose anyone, most notably trump, imposing a monarchy on this country. One of our founding documents is the Declaration of Independence. Its Grievances against 1/11
King George III parallel trump’s transgressions today. [FN1] The Declaration lists the “repeated Injuries and Usurpations, all having in direct Object the Establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid World.” [FN2] 2/11
“He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public Good.” [FN3] trump: responsible for several shutdowns of the Federal government that have impeded safety in travel and in health. 3/11
“He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the Tenure of their Offices, and the Amount and Payment of their Salaries.” [FN4] trump has complained that judges he has nominated do not act as he desires. trump has sought to kill the rule of law. 4/11
“He has erected a Multitude of new Offices, and sent hither Swarms of Officers to harrass our People, and eat out their Substance.” [FN5] After “DOGE” we got ICE on steroids. Officers have murdered our citizenry in the streets. 5/11
“He has kept among us, in Times of Peace, Standing Armies, without the consent of our Legislatures.” [FN6] In L.A., trump ordered Marines to be deployed. That he has taken control of our armed forces as his is against another founding document, the Constitution. 6/11
On 6/29/1787, James Madison said at The Constitutional Convention: “A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty.” [FN7] The Framers did not create a monarch. Concern over despotism guided them. 7/11
The maga crowd might want a king, but neither the Founders, the Framers, nor overwhelming majorities of the American people do. These are parallels between the despot king shoved aside in 1776, and the wannabe king currently in the Oval Office. More later... 8/11
Footnotes:
FN1. Others have noted these similarities. Many teachers of our public schools have commented that they teach their students about the Declaration so the students can think for themselves. 9/11
