October 18 will be another day of “No King” protests that seek to move closer to evicting trump from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. That the protests are non-violent is: a) made abundantly clear by the organizers; b) morally correct [FN1]; and c) smart. [FN2] 1/6
One thing that should not be overlooked. Events can move rapidly once our efforts to dislodge trump, et al, from power. The Berlin Wall, a cold war fixture for nearly 30 years, fell after an unbelievably short time once protests kicked in. 2/6
Boris Yeltsin leading people against (former Soviet) generals also stands as an example. We have to think in these terms. Each day, trump (or, really, those around him) seeks to solidify his hold on power. It’s difficult to believe that elections in 2026 will be allowed, but we 3/6
must be prepared. Military leaders who take seriously their oath to support, protect and defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic, are well aware of what is happening. We must be prepared, at a moment’s notice, to grab signs & take to the streets. 4/6
It might seem that nonviolent protests are ineffectual. The people forced corporations to put Jimmy Kimmel back on the air. We can force trump, et al, from the White House and reclaim our country. The protests show the power of our opposition. They’re also good practice. 5/6
Footnotes:
FN1. Evangelical Christian IN Lt Gov Micah Beckwith says that only Christians have the ability to be “moral.”
FN2. John Lennon once said that violence only plays into the hands of those in power. They have far more weapons. It’s non-violence that they can’t handle. 6/6
