By degrees on a continuum or by categories of qualitative distinction, there are different kinds of surprise. From pleasant albeit mundane to mind-shatteringly & life altering, some types of surprise are far and away clearly different. Yesterday, I experienced the latter. 1/8

Saturday morning’s rain gave way to an afternoon of clear skies and high temperatures. Humidity also was high. River City Pride was held in downtown Peoria on the riverfront. A lot of people stopped at the League of Women Voters tent, where I helped to register voters. 2/8

Registering people to vote is non-partisan, but the nature of the event and the political tenor of “now” combined to make me very surprised to see a person who holds such high Federal office. I want to clarify: this person has his job thanks to a GOP POTUS. 3/8

I was able to run over and stop him before he disappeared in the crowd. One of the other people working at the League of Women Voters tent said “sure” when I gave her my flip phone [FN1] to take a photo. He chuckled and shook his head when I asked if that really was him. 4/8

I wanted to ask more questions, but he had to be other places. Photos taken, he wished well and hopped away. Only a couple of my fellow volunteers realized who this was. Readers can judge (no pun intended!) for themselves. I was surprised [FN2] 5/8

I believe this was John Roberts, Chief Justice of the All Time Most Corrupt Supreme Court. This is my opinion. Others may disagree. If this was Chief Justice Roberts, I believe I know where trump stuffed the envelope full of cash at SOTU. [FN3] 6/8
