Where the far left and far right overlap for fun and enlightenment

Say "god" is on your side & you need the Proud Boys? This isn't a Christian nation Part 15

Last weekend was like footage from the 1960s: assassinations, protests & troops in the streets. A difference: a dictator in office whose shtick includes deference to a white, male, pissed-off “god” created by the far right. Sen Barry Goldwater [FN1] warned us: When these preachers 1/9

“get control of the [GOP], it's going to be a terrible damn problem” they believe they act “in the name of God,” so they won't compromise. "Today's ‘conservatives’ don't even know what the word means.” A woman has the right to abortion; it’s not a decision for “the Pope or 2/9

the Religious Right” & “not a conservative issue at all." [FN2] Fast forward to now.
A warped religious narrative + lies that this country was founded as [white] Christian = a vocal & white, pissed-off minority sufficiently revved up & when necessary violent. 3/9

One such person, Sean Feucht, ran for U.S. House in a California primary in 2020 & did a 2023 “Kingdom to the Capitol” tour in 2023. Feucht believes the U.S. is a Christian country founded for the benefit of Christians. [FN3] History doesn’t support this narrative. [FN4] 4/9

You can see the value to lie & say “god” is on YOUR, no one else’s, side. Paint your words in red-white-and-blue, add patriotic bunting, dumb down the teaching of our history & people follow. If someone disagrees, silence them. One authority has criticized Feucht for 5/9

associating w/the Proud Boys & other extreme right-wing militias. [FN5] Next up: absence of proof, in State docs announcing ratification conventions. These people are scary. We can’t let them prevail, especially w/how few of them there are. 6/9

FN1. Considered by some to be the “father” of modern conservatism a/k/a before the GOP was hacked by Christofascists.
FN2. See, “Goldwater on Goldwater,” (2006).

FN4. As noted in previous blogs here, no references to “Jesus Christ” appear in the founding documents; but nowhere is there mention of such an unequal protection of the law. 8/9
