Racism conflicts with our Declaration of Independence (“all Men are created equal”), the Equal Protection Clause of Amend XIV, and our body of law. However, a person has a right to believe as she or he wishes. Amend I. If a parent is a racist, a child eventually is free. 3/7
Parental interests are not absolute and must be subordinated to the child's interests. This is in the context of proceedings to terminate parental rights. In re D.D., 804 N.E.2d 258, 264-65 (Ind. Ct. App. 2004). Forces on the far right have made inroads to gut public education. 4/7
The KKK was key in elections of Indiana’s governor (1924) and other public officials. Only the head of the KKK’s conviction for homicide stopped, or perhaps only delayed, the KKK. The far right fears education that encourages students to question things.5/7
Critical thinking is important for individuals and our society. In free & open dialogue the odds do not favor racism. The far right seeks to impose draconian measures in education & indoctrinate kids. Our country will fall farther behind the rest of the World. 6/7
