Mel Gibson’s “The Patriot” inspires Micah Beckwith [FN1]: no surprise. The 2000 film is fiction w/little basis in reality, especially when it comes to slavery. E.g., in the film slaves were offered freedom to fight for the colonists. The offer was from the British. [FN2] Tomorrow: 1/7
Federal holiday to celebrate Dr Martin Luther King’s birthday. Any who hold or seek elective office will praise Dr King. In America, voters supposedly have the ultimate say. Dr King worked to secure voters’ rights. By the 1970s, both major parties held that goal. Today’s GOP is not 2/7
the party of Lincoln & gets fewer votes, nationally. Its majority in the U.S. House has been via gerrymander, as have been its majorities in most State legislatures. Beckwith’s only run for elective office came up short. [FN3] In his quest to be the GOP nominee for Lt Gov? 3/7
The party’s convention, not voters in the primary, has the ultimate say. Beckwith is working to lock in a majority of delegates at the GOP State convention. Beckwith might not be able to win an election, but he’ll ride the coattails of someone who can. Beckwith says he knows 4/7
The Constitution & warns others not to read academics w/their secular bias. Beckwith quit his position on a library board, to spend more time on his campaign. He spent as much time studying American history [FN4] as he did HEPL’s policies and books - i.e., not at all. 5/7
Beckwith knows as much about the Constitution as Mel Gibson does about The Revolutionary War. People shouldn’t agree to “lock” their votes for Beckwith at the convention. Beckwith as IN LtGov puts us one jack-booted goose step from fascism. 6/7
