Oddly, those who scream loudest “You violate our rights!” seem blind & deaf when they are accused of like transgressions. Pilgrims & Puritans came to New England in the early 1600s to escape religious persecution in England, but did not tolerate other religious views. [FN1] 1/7
Today’s evangelicals are hypersensitive when exercise of their religious beliefs is not as free as they believe is required. Whether ignorance of the establishment clause or their hostility toward others’ beliefs, their deity is a cantankerous about being the one & only. And their kids? 2/7
Many people died unnecessarily a few years ago from COVID. People continue to die. Some of the evangelical crowd mocked those of us who felt 21st century science and medicine were more effective than religious beliefs that dismissed the contagion. [FN2] 3/7
In Indiana, some people were quite vocal about COVID and religion. They believed their deity was the answer. They have a right to that belief. They do not have the right to impose that belief on others, especially kids. What’s even worse is when a teacher interferes... 4/7
A kid whose parents believe in modern science and have their kid wear a mask should not be hassled. A teacher or a sub or a helper has NO RIGHT to tell the kid to take off the mask, as a favor to the teacher. They’ll keep that as a secret between them. Right?... 5/7
No. That’s not right. It violates parental rights. Science is being tossed aside for medicine and health. When it comes to nukes, they think the science is groovy. I approve of the contents of this blog. Hell, I wrote it. 6/7
