Where the far left and far right overlap for fun and enlightenment

Ignorance & bigotry are carried in Islamophobic, xenophobic meme reposted by People Over Politics"

A post appeared today that repeated falsehoods that are aimed at immigrants of the Islamic faith. In order for the reader to understand what I am writing, I have to set out, in full, what was posted on FB page "People Over Politics." I apologize to those who are offended by the bigotry in the original post. That is the only way to effectively address it:

The meme:

"True or false?
"'PAY ATTENTION
85% of the world’s refugees are Muslim.
Not one of the 56 Muslim countries are taking in refugees.
Eleven of these countries are the richest in the world.
Pay attention! Immigration is not compassion; it is conquest.' ~
Dan Murrell"

Yeah, pay attention: FALSE, FALSE and FALSE
Let’s break down specific assertions:
FIRST: “85% of the world’s refugees are Muslim”
FALSE, as noted at
Alima de Graaf, “Fact check: Why ‘85% of refugees are Muslim’ is false,”
Deutsche Welle, 11/21/25, accessed 12/30/25.
A couple of highlights:
“Edgar Scrase of the United Nation's High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
writes that "given that Ukrainians and Venezuelans alone comprise nearly one-third of all refugees, including other people in need of international protection, the true proportion of refugees that are Muslims is likely to be much lower."
-”Importantly, the type of comprehensive data needed to make the statement that 85 percent of all refugees are Muslim does not exist, according to the UNHCR.”
SECOND: “Not one of the 56 Muslim countries are taking in refugees.”
FALSE, as noted in that same source:
The majority of people fleeing conflict and persecution “stay in their countries of origin. When they go abroad, they predominantly go to neighboring countries.... [T]wo out of three refugees were hosted in neighboring countries.
“In many cases, neighboring countries have similar religious affiliations. For instance, refugees from Syria, a majority-Muslim country, have mainly gone to Turkey, another predominantly Muslim country. The same is true for Afghan refugees, fleeing mainly to Pakistan and Iran.”
THIRD: “Eleven of these countries are the richest in the world.”
FALSE, as noted at
Global Finance, “Richest Countries in the World 2025," 09/03/25, accessed 12/30/25
-An important point raised by this article is that it is difficult to determine how to
determine what factors make a country “rich”:
“Many people would probably be surprised to find that many of the planet’s wealthiest nations are also among the tiniest. ... San Marino, Malta, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Singapore [] benefit from having sophisticated financial sectors and tax regimes that attract foreign investment, professional talent and large bank deposits. Others like Brunei, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have large reserves of hydrocarbons or other lucrative natural resources. ... However, only when taking into account inflation rates and the cost of local goods and services can we get a more accurate picture of a nation’s average standard of living: the resulting figure is what is called purchasing power parity (PPP), often expressed in international dollars to allow comparisons between different countries...”
-A quick, bigoted slam overlooks nuances, such as economists consider in evaluation of aspects of a country’s finances.
-As important, in NONE of the rankings of nations by wealth, however measured, supports this statement: “Eleven of these countries are the richest in the world.”
-”The latter half of the claim probably refers to the 57 members of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It was 56 until Syria's membership was reinstated in March 2025. This group includes both states that have declared Islam the official state religion and Muslim-majority countries.” Alima de Graaf, “Fact check: Why ‘85% of refugees are Muslim’ is false,”
Deutsche Welle, 11/21/25, accessed 12/30/25.
-Amongst the member nations are several of considerable wealth. (E.g., United Arab Emirates, Brunei-Darussalam, State of Qatar, Kingdom of S’audi Arabia). None of the rankings lists the eleven as “the richest in the world.”
CONCLUSION:
-The [purported] author, without citation to any authorities, states matters as “facts.”
-The facts, as I note by citing authorities, demonstrate that whoever wrote the crap purportedly written by Dan Murrell lied.
-This is an example of prejudice against immigrants and against those who do not adhere to the racism of “Christian nationalism.”
-It takes time to overcome ignorance. Thanks for reading this.
