The new U.S. Atty Gen’l issued a memo on the death penalty (“dp”). [FN1] Memes aside, she did not/cannot create new capital offenses for non-U.S. citizens. [FN2] If consistency w/#47 is the goal, this memo delivers w/hypocrisy, pettiness, ignorance & untruths. 1/13

1) The AG asserts the “American people, through their elected representatives” affirmed that dp is a deterrent & achieves justice is absurd. a) Stats & studies establish the opposite; & b) Voters in gerrymandered systems have little choice & do NOT vote on single issues. 2/13

2) Younger generations see dp as arbitrary & discriminatory. An exoneration last July brought to 200 the innocent ppl freed who would have been executed. [FN3] The discrimination is borne out by #47 and the Central Park 5. Convicted as teens, they “spent years in prison 3/13

for crimes they did not commit before being exonerated by DNA [&] confession of a convicted rapist and murderer.” In 1989, trump took out full-page ads in NYC's major newspapers calling for” the dp for those responsible. [FN4] 4/13

3) The memo highlights ignorance. The AG says those “at the very highest levels of [DOJ] failed to seek death sentences against child rapists, mass murderers, terrorists, and other criminals.” The crime of “child rape” is not punishable by death. [FN5] 5/13

4) Other criminals. The crime of treason is defined by the Constitution. [FN6] The evidence of Russian interference on behalf of #47 is a matter of statutory record. [FN7] Treason is a capital offense. [FN8] The AG has a duty to prosecute. 6/13

Advanced nations long ago abandoned dp. The putative leader of this administration wants to be a dictator and so wants available a punishment carried out against the poor & far more frequently non-white people, but #47 is capital-eligible for treason. 7/13

I oppose the death penalty, even for a person who has committed treason & has sought to destroy our country as he is in service to Putin [FN9], dictator of all the Russias. I approve of this blog/tweets. Hell, I wrote them. 8/13
