Where the far left and far right overlap for fun and enlightenment

God, Jesus Christ and their absence from The Constitution

Monty Python: “No one knows when to expect The Spanish Inquisition!” An inquisition is a persistent, grueling examination conducted w/o regard for the examinee’s dignity or civil rights. Black’s Law Dict., 10th ed., p. 913. We know when to expect Micah Beckwith, a Hamilton 1/7

County preacher. His move toward worldly power has been steady. Beckwith ran in the 2020 GOP primary for INCD 5, eventually won by Victoria Spartz who won’t seek re-election in 2024. Beckwith was gifted the next rung on the ladder to temporal power, a seat on Hamilton East 2/7

Public Library Board allowed Beckwith to advance knowledge by banning books. (Beckwith says he doesn’t ban books.) In February, Beckwith began to lecture on the Constitution. I’d hoped to address his misperceptions, lecture by lecture, but never saw them. Ah! In a tweet, April 30 3/7

Beckwith wrote: “America was absolutely founded on Christian values. You have to be ignorant to think otherwise. The writings of our Framers and the founding documents are very clear on that.” To construe history through documents consists of primary sources (The Constitution 4/7

itself & related official acts) and secondary sources (e.g., The Federalist, scholarly works, case law). First, the Framers, according to the National Archives, were the 55 delegates who, at one time or another, attended the Constitutional Convention in 1787. Second, the primary source 5/7

in regard to their work, is the text of The Constitution, signed September 17, 1787, and in which neither “Jesus Christ” nor “God” appears. If “Christian values” exist in the document, they are in a design of government for doing business and responding to attacks. Religion is mentioned: 6/7

“...no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.” U.S. Constitution, Art. VI. The First Amendment was not a product of the Convention. Beckwith is ignorant. Some of us expected that. 7/7
