Guns: another reason Beckwith is unfit for office. Four people are dead in a mass shooting at a school in Georgia. Initial thought: four’s not bad. That’s a sick thing to say, but in context of so many other mass shootings, it seems tragic only to the dead & their loved ones. 1/9

We know where Beckwith stands: “I am proud to announce that I have earned 100% rating from Gun Owners of America. I will protect our 2nd Amendment Rights.” [FN1] “Gun Owners of America” touts itself as “The only no compromise gun lobby in Washington.” [FN2] 2/9

Beckwith is unaware that bans on concealed firearms “were among the earliest types of gun control laws” and were enacted in KY and LA in 1813, and IN in 1820. [FN3] Beckwith vows to
“push for legislation” for gun owners to carry guns w/o concealed gun permits.” [FN4] 3/9

Two problems: 1) States that pass permitless carry laws suffer 22% increase in gun homicide w/in 3 years of passage, more than twice as the country overall. [FN5] Beckwith can grab public $ for religious schools or home schoolin’by killing public schools. But! 4/9

2) IN LT Gov doesn’t have any such authority to push for legislation of any sort, but when the Senate is in committee of the whole, has a right to join in debate & to vote on all subjects. [FN6] The “committee of the whole” is a parliamentary fiction that only can make 5/9

recommendations, but then can reconvene and vote. [FN7] Beckwith became nominee for LT Gov of magaGOP not by running in the primary, but by recruiting people to be State convention delegates. Hoosier voters can’t allow Beckwith to leverage power from 891 delegates. 6/9

Beckwith screwed up operations of HEPL.[FN8] Her/his ignorance of our history & our rights rests on a firm bed of stupidity. With firearms in the picture who knows how many kids will die. Hoosier voters need to vote against that ticket. #BrainsNotBraun 7/9
