Is there overlap of gun nuts & ppl harass women who enter women’s health centers? A peer reviewed study might establish a link. Also: do guns deter crimes & prevent more injuries & death than they cause? That question can’t be effectively answered. 1/6
The CDC have been barred, since the mid-1990s, by Federal law from sanctioning such research. The work can be significant. For example, 1964 Surgeon General’s report on mainstream cigarette smoke relied on peer review studies to link cigs to cancer. 2/6
Peer review has become foundation of scholarly publication sys because it effectively subjects an work to scrutiny of other experts in the field. Thus encourages authors to strive to produce high quality research that will advance the field. Kelly, et al, 24 eJIF Oct 2014. 3/6
Peer review also supports/maintains integrity/authenticity in advancement of science: scientific hypothesis gen’lly not accepted by academic community unless published in peer-reviewed journal Id. If Feds can’t sanction this research, Indiana should at our public universities. 4/6
If guns deter more crimes & deaths than they cause, gun nuts should welcome this research that, by law, CDC cant sponsor. If elected I would offer legislation in the Gen’l Assembly to fund studies of gun violence as a health risk. On that first “overlap” question, I have an idea. 5/6
Just as anti-choice advocates sit outside women’s centers & photograph women who enter, we can sit outside gun stores & shooting ranges. We have that right. I’m Mark Small, pro-choice, anti-gun GOP candidate 4 Ind House Distr 86. I approve of this blog. Hell, I wrote it. 6/6
