This is the 3rd installment of my reply to a “challenge to any Democrat” to explain “how any of this makes sense.” [FN1] The 4/28 challenge consists of 18 unnumbered points [FN2] & I have replied to points 1-6. [FN3] Too often, such vitriol has gone unaddressed. 1/14
4/28 has not marred the post’s free flow of vitriol w/pesky documentation. Many on the far right believe that bluster alone can “win” arguments. I believe these issues need to be addressed & are vital to our future. That’s why I footnote and present cogent argument such as... 2/14
4/28: “7) People who have never been to college should pay the debts of college students who took out huge loans for their degrees.” 4/28 challenges me to explain “how any of this makes sense,” i.e., 4/28 challenges me to explain 4/28's ignorance to 4/28. 3/14
A) Higher ed is valuable to society. [FN4] 4/28 does not dispute this notion, but I footnote it nonetheless. Those who disdain higher ed can tell the rest of us how self-surgery works for them or if they miss driving a car over a bridge or flying somewhere. Without higher ed 4/14
those things would be absent from our world.
B) Education is not free, but ignorance is far more expensive. During Ronald Reagan’s two terms as Governor, California’s public colleges & universities dropped in quality. [FN5] 5/14
Angry at students who demonstrated against U.S. military in Vietnam, Reagan screwed State colleges. [FN6]
C) Some schools address student debt. Students do not take out loans. Scholarships, stipends and other financial aid, often not related to financial aid = college w/o debt. [FN7] 6/14
4/28 does not say how much of that tax bill addressed to 4/28 is to “pay the debts of college students who took out huge loans for their degrees.” But hell, I inferred 4/28 is one of those people “who have never been to college.” 7/14
4/28: “8) Immigrants with tuberculosis and polio are welcome, but you’d better be able to prove your dog is vaccinated?” Person w/infectious TB is inadmissible. [FN8] A person must have been vaccinated for polio to enter the U.S. [FN9] So yeah, vaccinate the dog, 8/14
4/28: “9) Irish doctors and German engineers who want to immigrate to the US must go through a rigorous vetting process, but any illiterate gang member or terrorist who jumps the southern fence is welcome?” The “vetting process” for a member of profession is different 9/14
from immigration status itself. E.g., the Irish doctor to practice medicine here would have to clear hurdles. [FN10] Of course, this presumes the Irish doctor and German engineer are white, as the balance of this point is blatantly racist. Never went to college, huh? 10/14
