My favorite TV shows/podcasts involve history & often an interviewee is seated in front of book shelves. Most shelves are neat, but some bear signs of a random chaos of a personal library often used. Factors help to identify books. [FN1] Questions in history? 1/7
How did Germans allow the NSDAP [FN2] to seize power? Most Americans don’t give it much thought. In the “land of the free,” elections transfer power peacefully. Our rights were protected, especially through Brown I and acts of Congress. What’s often on podcast shelves? 2/7
“The Third Reich Trilogy” is a disturbing read. [FN3] There are a few parallels between the NSDAP in 1933 and this GOP. This GOP is controlled by a disgusting leader who is charismatic to some. His themes of hyper-nationalism & racial supremacy are spread via 3/7
mass communication to spread disinformation. (i.e., lies). We are told that what we saw on Jan 6, 2021, was ... not what we saw on Jan 6, 2021. trump chuckles as he talks about being a “dictator” for “day one.” We know what will follow. We need not go there. 4/7
We are not emerging from the ravages of a World War. Our populace that is not starving. trump was installed via election interference by a dictator who wants to see us fail, as trump has said he wants our country to fail so he (trump) can benefit at the polls in November. 5/7
Our problems are not worsened by Pres Biden, who won office in 2020. trump gained the Oval Office in 2016 illegitimately. Appointments trump made & orders he issued are void. How did Germans allow things in 1933? Well, how can we STOP them NOW? 6/7
