Guns were used to stop slave revolts. Unless one says guns were pivotal in winning The Civil War (& most right wing ppl embrace the Confederacy), guns have not played a role in securing freedom. otoh progressive voices have been silenced, far more frequently, by guns. 2/4

Guns were pivotal in the genocide of indigenous peoples. Guns cause fear. Guns do not expand liberty. We need to take steps to stop these mass killings: ban assault-style weapons & ammo clips that hold more than five rounds; stop gun show sales; have background checks. 3/4
